Pre-Tour Information For Ski/ Snowboard Tours

key information to make sure your tour is everything you deserve

What to Expect

Weather:

We honestly don’t even know how to tell you about the weather in the mountains and we doubt anyone does. Basically come expecting anything and everything. The temperatures are anywhere between -30 and +5 celcius. You would be safe enough to expect -5 degrees most days. Some days are sunny, some are snowy, some are both. The best thing you can do is dress in layers and be ready for anything.

Skiing/ Snowboarding

You can expect to ski full days during the entire tour, but there is lots of flexibility in that. We head as a group for somewhere around first chair and ski until somewhere around last chair each day. In that, there is room for some flexibility for you if you prefer to relax a bit. Some mountains have a shuttle, so you can opt to arrive later or leave earlier. It is also perfectly acceptable to head in early and start warming a seat for your après ski session. You are also welcome to take a day off and we can help you arrange an alternative activity like snowshoeing, dog sledding or snowmobiling. See you on the slopes!

  • In order to provide excellent quality guiding we do not offer our own shuttle between the mountain and hotel during midday. This is because we need to make sure the guides are able to focus on helping the group have the best time on the hill.

What to Bring

On the first night or second morning you have the opportunity to pop by one of the best ski/ snowboard shops in Western Canada, so don’t panic if you don’t have everything when you arrive.

  • Skis and poles/ snowboard and boots

  • Helmet and goggles (please don’t ski without a helmet, it is so dangerous) (We recommend low light lens for goggles)

  • Warm gloves or mitts

  • Winter jacket and pants

  • Warm layers (lots, and ideally non-cotton)

  • Some clothes for around town and to restaurants (doesn’t need to be fancy, it’s the Kootenays)

  • Towel and bathing suit for hot springs and hot tubs

  • Winter shoes or boots that are good for walking in some snow

How To Pack

Nothing can bum you out on a ski trip like an airline can, especially with the state of air travel these days. Below are some tips on how to pack to ensure you get the most out of your trip.

  • These are the hardest items to rent and the most inconvenient to have delayed.

    • Ski goggles

    • Gloves

    • Jacket

    • Snow pants

    • 1 base layer + ski socks

    • Ski boots as a “personal item”. You can tuck these under the seat.

    • Any necessary medications

  • You can check items in a bag that are not as important.

    • Extra clothes (typically delayed baggage will arrive in 1-3 days)

    • Helmet (easy to rent)

    • Skis + Poles or Snowboard (easy to rent)
