CAMPING IN THE CANADIAN ROCKIES

YOUR GUIDE TO THE BEST CAMPING IN ALBERTA. PLAN YOUR CAMPING TRIP IN THE CANADIAN ROCKIES!

Camping in the Canadian Rockies is one of the top outdoor activities in the mountains of Alberta. Alberta is home to Banff and Jasper National Parks and the gateway to Kootenay and Yoho National Parks. Parks Canada and some of the Alberta Parks are home to a multitude of campgrounds to suit campers of all sorts. Banff and Jasper National Parks offer several backcountry camping areas in the Rockies, laid out along the best backpacking trails. There is also a network of front country campsites near Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. Some of these campsites are first come first served, and some can be reserved in advance.

Weather can be a factor during your Canadian Rockies camping trip, but luckily the weather is surprisingly warm and pleasant during the summer months. I recommend camping in the Rockies between June and September. June can have a few cold days here and there and September can be prone to the odd snow storm. Make sure you have some warm clothing packed anytime you are camping in the Canadian Rockies.

There are several ways to enjoy camping in the Canadian Rockies. Naturally you can pack you camping gear into your car (or a rental car) and go car camping. You can also rent a campervan from several camper rental companies in Calgary and do a camping roadtrip. You can go backpacking and camp at the backcountry campsites along the trail too. Another really amazing way to experience camping in the Rockies is to join a guided camping tour. We have listed one of our guided camping tours in the Rockies below.
